IASB backs away from convergence goal

  | The International Accounting Standards Board's oversight body said convergence with the Financial Accounting Standards Board of the US is a way to facilitate and promote adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards, "but it is not an objective in itself". The changes establish an operational framework for the voluntary application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) in Japan, starting from the fiscal year ending on or after 31 March 2010 and represent an important step towards the adoption of IFRSs in Japan. |
