IASB backs away from convergence goal

The International Accounting Standards Board's oversight body said convergence with the Financial Accounting Standards Board of the US is a way to facilitate and promote adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards, "but it is not an objective in itself". Accounting standards have become increasingly politicised, making it more difficult to achieve convergence, regulators and accountants said. Read the Financial Times' article


IASB - Trustees announce further governance enhancements

IASB welcomes decision by Japanese FSA to permit domestic use of IFRSs for current financial year

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) welcomes the recent regulatory changes announced by the Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA) on 11 December 2009. The changes establish an operational framework for the voluntary application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs) in Japan, starting from the fiscal year ending on or after 31 March 2010 and represent an important step towards the adoption of IFRSs in Japan.


EFRAG-FEE paper on expected loss model

CESR gathers international supervisors to discuss worldwide enforcement of IFRS
